Incense
Incense has been used since ancient times in mainly religious contexts. Nowadays, incense is also used as a mood enhancer in the home or as an aid when you want to meditate or open up your senses.
How to use them:
1. Place the stick in an incense holder. If you don't have one, a bowl of sand or pebbles works just as well. Or use ash like the Japanese (read below how). Make sure that the stick is stable and cannot fall over.
2. Light the tip of the stick.
3. Blow out the flame, keep the tip glowing.
4. Let stand and keep under supervision. Enjoy!
Do like the Japanese
In Japan, a lot of incense is used. There, the traditional substrate is flattened ash in a mug. The Japanese prefer to use pure white rice straw ash which is adorably beautiful and very fine, but it's just as well to use pure wood ash from your fireplace. Then first sift the ash in a sieve to filter out any pieces of coal. An ash bed is a very beautiful base for incense and has the advantage that the ash that falls from the incense itself is not visible.
